It was another Okutama trip to complete STREAM & WATERFALL library.
My aim for this time was to capture sounds which I could not get on last trip.
Okutama city has a such a huge forest area, so I planned to stay one night at a cottage where inside Tomin-no mori citizen’s Forest.
No main streets are going by!!! It was great place to capture forest, birds, streams, and waterfalls.

Last week, I was in Okutama, Tokyo capturing streams and waterfalls.
When you hear “Tokyo” perhaps thinking of neon streets, modern technologies, lots of people and even more people, but surprise or not, there are still great nature being nicely protected and Okutama city where fountainhead of Tokyo is the one you can find many camp sites in deep woods.

As far as recordings, I have been collecting streams & waterfalls for some time now for designing and spicing up good sounding waterfalls. When designing nice waterfall in the motion pictures, streams and water surfaces and some rain drips would sometimes needed. Otherwise in sometimes results are just sounds like white noises….

Here are samples.

 First 10sec = waterfall+stream, Second 10sec = waterfall only Next seg = 5sec of waterfall+stream, Last seg = 5sec of waterfall only

Gears I used this time were Tascam DR-680 recorder with Line Audio CM3x2 (ortf in rode blimp) in front.

Line Audio CM3 has good natural responsibilities.
I am getting great results with both stereo and mono recording.

Here is inside of Rode blimp

And such a cool down with this water drips while I was on the trail.

And streams!

In Rotorua, NZ, we stayed at one cozy motel with hot spa outside at patio.
This spa makes interesting funny sound, so we quickly grab our gear to record it.

@Motel, Rotorua

First 30sec = water tap, second 30sec = pouring hot spring water mono, third 30sec = pouring hot spring water stereo, last = draining water.

And since we were surrounded by one of quiet rural residence that I could hear almost nothing but water movement, so I hit rec just for the heck of it while taking bath….call me crazy: ) But no imagination allowed!!

And next day, we went to find madpool near Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland which makes interesting out of space kind a sound!!

When we got close to Rotorua, we took a quick side trip to discover Omanawa Falls!!

Insects chorus welcomed me on the track.
Nice!! I felt a sense of adventure with it!!

And Omanawa falls!!  It was just about 15mins from our car, but I felt much deep being in a forest!

And the track led me to this mysterious metal door at the end!!

There was a mechanical sound going on behind it.
water pump or some thought?….

After while….I started wonder the way down to waterfalls.
which I couldn’t find….may be there were no way down to waterfalls,
and has been kept nice as an untouched waterfalls.
But what feels like being in there?! next time?

While finding a track to down, capturing this stream sound relaxed me well.

Spending few days in Titirangi, Auckland, I found great places to capture nice wave and waterfalls.

This is one of the place where Wave sound captured near Piha beach.

And I found KareKare waterfall.
This small waterfall sounded gentle so does stream which good addition to my waterfall library!

And I captured great rural residential sound while staying at this cozy cottage.
This place was also great for recording car pass while almost no distance traffic were heard.

My NZ journey begins!!
Just few hours after my flight, Arataki visiter center became my very first visit in New Zealand.
Wow!^^! It is surely deferent from my country!!
Much green and nature.

@ The Waitakere Ranges

At Arataki visiter center, I found out about huge insects in NZ called “Weta”
SCARY BIG!!

Being few hours in New Zealand and seeing great nature,
I thought of kiwis living somewhere in this forest….soon after I found out that….

After exploring at the visiter center, we went Piha Beach.
Hiked up few mins with our gears and down to…

@Piha Beach

Piha blowholes!!
Tim Prebble (many thanx!!) told me that when it is high tide, wave hits hard that makes massive sound!!
This time was low to medium tide? While it sounded huge enough to interest me.
And I captured nice ocean wave sound which made me start collecting wave sound on this journey: )

@Piha Blowholes

And sunset at Piha Beach was beautiful.
I was already happy visiting and being explored many in my first day.
But it is just beginning….
Cheers with NZ Brews; )
